Visual Studio Code Debugger Setup for Python Not Working

I downloaded VSC 1.38.1 for Ubuntu then installed the latest Python extension. I restarted VSC. When I click on the debug icon on the left side nav, then click on the Configurations drop down, select Add Configuration,all I see is "Node.js". When I click on "More", it brings up several language extensions on the left, with Python at the top, but that Python extension is already installed.
