使用SSH的Git存储库

Question

I've a fresh installation of GitLab on my CentOS 6.4 server.

Before that, I was just using Github (in HTTP mode), so I'm very new to all of this.

I've created a key for my user, added it in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys and in GitLab.

ssh-keygen -t rsa -C "arthur@domain.tld"
cat ~/.ssh/id_rsa.pub >> ~/.ssh/authorized_keys

But when I try to push a new commit to my repo, it doesn't ask for my user, but just for git's user password (and fails) :

git push origin master

I don't really understand how it works, what did I miss ?

I've created a key for my user, added it in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys and in GitLab

You shouldn't add your public key in ~/.ssh/authorized_keys : the only authorized_keys file which is modified is:

• one on GitLab side
• done by GitLab itself (when you add an ssh public key to your account through GitLab GUI)

You need a private/public ssh keys id_rsa / id_rsa.pub created on the client side in $HOME/.ssh (or %HOME%/.ssh on Windows ), and register the public key through the GitLab GUI.
