my app is very basic and looks great on the iphone but in compatability mode 2x on the ipad it does not show the same screen as on the iphone.

I've had the same behavior on a physical iPad 2 for an existing working iPhone-only app. 对于现有的仅运行iPhone的应用程序，我在物理iPad 2上具有相同的行为。
In fact, after adding for each Retina images (suffixed by @2x) a corresponding non-Retina version in the project, my app launched successfully on the iPad, without any modifications... 实际上，在为项目中的每个Retina图像添加（带有@ 2x后缀）对应的非Retina版本之后，我的应用程序在iPad上成功启动，无需进行任何修改...
