Question

I'm using MySQL with Entity Framework 6. My code runs fine, but for some reason I can't update my EDMX file because it comes up with the following error.

I have a feeling that it's because of my web.config setup, but I have set it up according to the MySQL documentation...

This was caused by not having the correct attribute on my DbContext as recommended by the MySQL documentation:

[DbConfigurationType(typeof(MySqlEFConfiguration))]
public class MyDbContext : DbContext
{
}

This error can also occur when you haven't installed a compatible mysql connector on your system. for example for Entity Framework 6.0.0.0 you need to install mysql connector 6.9.6 which is the compatible version of mysql data provider for EF6. if you install some other version for example 6.8.3 then the same problem may arise.
