使用mod_filter代替.htaccess的mod_deflate

Question

I've a Wordpress site running in a VPS but it's extremely slow, take a look here . This what I've in .htaccess file:

I'm using also W3C Total Cache plugin but for some reason the GZIP output is not enabled and I can't find the right way to enable it in order to speedup the site. I have read all this topics:

But I'm not getting any positive results. My question, for now, is: how do I enable|use mod_filter from .htaccess file? It's possible? I've access to server VPS setup I mean Apache config files but I want to keep as far as I can't from them since I'm not an expert and fear to damage something.

Can any give me some help?

First check if you have mod_deflate installed by using phpinfo(), then try http://www.ipmango.com/http/deflate to check for relavant headers.

Besides deflate there are are couple of reasons for your site to be slow. All these tips are to be used with w3total cache.

1. Try using varnish on your server, it has a huge effect on the page load as it already has all the content cached and serves them directly without going through the whole compilation. Its a bit pain if you have a site with constantly changing content.
2. If varnish is a valid choice for your website, memcache is a must, you might already have it on your vps. If not try installing it.
3. Css Minification is very important, try using the auto minification option, which will minify and combine them in a single file. And use of CDN will really speed things up.
4. Use a speed optimizaton checking tool like http://tools.pingdom.com/fpt/ which will really let you know which things are causing issues on your site.
