Question

So I'm in the middle of an e-commerce build but we've run into a snag when trying to migrate from Magento to Drupal Commerce, quite frankly it's a mess (Not sure if others had this experience) Luckily, we haven't spent a ton of time on this and it's still possible to switch cart systems.

That being said I'm looking into OpenCart or Ubercart....Does anyone have any recommendations. Keep in mind that some of our products do have variations like size or type. Additionally, we will need to have two sets of pricing as well.

Ideally, we want to stay on the drupal CMS as we feel it covers some of our other development needs.

1. All this being said what is everyone's experience with migrating from Magento to Ubercart or Opencart?
2. What do you feel is better?

Magento can be a nightmare to work on so I understand where you're coming from. OpenCart is a fairly good CMS, most of the code is simple and while OpenCart has been criticized for the basic code and code repetition, the learning curve for an intermediate developer is not steep at all - provided they understand MVC.

I don't have experience with Ubercart and can't comment on whether it is viable but I can tell you that OpenCart will cater to your product variations (Options in OpenCart) and pricing (customer groups). While setting up Options can be tricky initially, once you understand how it works, it's going to be easy to add variations for your store.

As to which version of OpenCart to use, the current version is 3.x while most of the extensions on the marketplace support 2.xx Developers are working to upgrade their extensions but this means very little if your store won't need to extend the existing functionality of OpenCart. If you have a development team then extending it should be dead easy.

I've migrated from M1 to OpenCart this summer, right after the M1 stopped receiving official updates from the company. Was choosing between OpenCart and M2. But since I'm tired of hiring a dev everytime I needed to make the adjustments, decided to go with something less complicated. The overall impression is great, my store works perfectly - it's way much easier to use, the platform has a responsive UI and lots of cheap extensions. As for the migration process - the entities were transferred correctly and no data was lost. I used this plugin Hope it helped!
