Question

According to the spring docs , string property values such as 10s will be properly converted into a java.time.Duration .

Indeed this works for me with the main application properties. But it fails in a unit test.

From Spring, you should understand the difference between @Component and @Configuration big Topic and conceptes.

I saw your code, you're using @ConfigurationProperties(prefix = "my") and @Component however, both are different functionalities, you should not mix of both annotation

Below solution tested and verified all code

The @SpringBootTest is the key annotation here. Without it the appropriate ConversionService that handles this coercion isn't loaded into the test's application context.
