I am about to start a new career testing 1 piece of software that will be ported to just about every major platform (android, iphone, tablets, xbox, ps3, and other misc platforms).

What is a good testing strategy for automated testing of this type of scenario?

Are there any books or blogs that I can read up on relating to this type of multi-device testing?

There are companies who specialize in (automatic) multi device testing. They allow you to test on a larger set of devices without owning all of them.
