I learn to make a simple website using RMarkdown and GitHub and made basic files like _site.yml; index.Rmd; and about.Rmd;

However, my site only show README.md instead of index.html.

Can somebody help me to check it?

I don't know, I can't find gh-pages branch in the setting. Only main branch.

Then you need to double-check your publication source setting in order to select a folder (in your case _site ) for your publishing source.
