Error when running npm-install: Could not install . Error! No version provided

Question

Just got a new hard drive, installed GIT, Mongodb, node and npm, added GIT to the PATH, and tried to run npm install -g. Here's the full error message:

I've searched for other people with this issue, but haven't been able to find any fixes. here is my package.json file:

Does anyone know what is causing this error?

yes, it's looks it's treat the -g as package i don't know the exact reason why but these worked for me

• 1: if you opened the cmd window as administrator close it and open the usual cmd(not admin)
• 2: your window is opened before finishing nodejs setup so close it and reopen it.

As the error says, your package.json is missing a version field. Add one and the error should go away.

The most important things in your package.json are the name and version fields. Those are actually required, and your package won't install without them. The name and version together form an identifier that is assumed to be completely unique.
