Trouble installing ghc-mod

I'm trying to install GHC-MOD on Windows 10 x64 on GHC 8.0.1 with cabal:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>cabal install ghc-mod
Resolving dependencies...
cabal: Could not resolve dependencies:

next goal: mtl (dependency of ghc-mod-5.5.0.0)

Backjump limit reached (currently 2000, change with --max-backjumps or try to
run with --reorder-goals).

Then changing backjumps:

C:\WINDOWS\system32>cabal install ghc-mod --max-backjumps 9999

I've tried installing both MinGW+MSYS and Cygwin, but neither works. All the GHC folders are in the PATH environment variable.

Officially, ghc-mod is not updated to GHC 8. There's a branch ghc-8 for it where some tests are still broken but other things supposedly work.

The ghc-8 branch seems to work for me. It builds and I can use it. I use Stack on Linux.
