Laravel website not getting connected (Database connection failed)

I am new to Laravel and currently working on a Laravel project.

When I used the 'php artisan serve' in my file to check whether if it is working/localhost, I am getting this error:

(1/1) HttpException Database connection failed!

Check your .env file in your project root directory. It should have entries like this:

DB_CONNECTION=mysql
DB_HOST=127.0.0.1
DB_PORT=3306
DB_DATABASE=<yourdatabase>
DB_USERNAME=<yourdatabaseuser>
DB_PASSWORD=<yourdatabaseuserpassword>

Also check in the config folder in the file database.php , if everything fits in your selected connection. Here an example from my database.php . I did not change anything here from the initial project setup:

<?php
use Illuminate\Support\Str;

return [

    /*
    |--------------------------------------------------------------------------
    | Default Database Connection Name
    |--------------------------------------------------------------------------
    |
    | Here you may specify which of the database connections below you wish
    | to use as your default connection for all database work. Of course
    | you may use many connections at once using the Database library.
    |
    */

    'default' => env('DB_CONNECTION', 'mysql'),

    /*
    |--------------------------------------------------------------------------
    | Database Connections
    |--------------------------------------------------------------------------
    |
    | Here are each of the database connections setup for your application.
    | Of course, examples of configuring each database platform that is
    | supported by Laravel is shown below to make development simple.
    |
    |

    | so make sure you have the driver for your particular database of
    | choice installed on your machine before you begin development.

You have to create.env file inside root folder of your laravel installation.

Add this code to your.env file and change DB_DATABASE, DB_USERNAME and DB_PASSWORD to your database credentials.
