Uncaught ReferenceError: x is not defined — JavaScript

I tried creating a function, but then I want the final output to be stored in another variable outside the function. Any help, please!

var randomNumber = nextSequence(x)
alert(randomNumber)

function nextSequence(){
    var x = Math.random() * 3;
    var x = Math.floor(x)

    return x;
}
