How to transfer wordpress.com to self-hosted site?

Today I decided to move my wordpress.com site to a self-hosted wordpress site in order to get access to more plugins etc. I opened a new account at Bluehost and successfully transferred my domain: mariekevancamp.com.

At first I could log into wordpress but after importing the xml. file I exported, I keep getting the following error:

"Something unexpected happened while accessing this website. It looks like it doesn't have an active domain connection upgrade to link the requested domain name to the WordPress.com site.

If this is your domain name and it has recently stopped working, it's possible that your plan or domain may have expired. Please log in to your WordPress.com account and review the status of your plan and domain. "

I simply cannot log into wordpress anymore to make changes. Is there a way to solve this? I figured it could be that it takes a few days before the domain name is active, but then it is strange that I was able to log into wordpress right after the transfer.

It sounds to me like you changed your domain -- your DNS settings -- to point to your Bluehost service. Change your DNS back so it points to your old WordPress.com service, then export your posts and all.

Then ask Bluehost support for advice on migrating.
