How to get post content from wordpress.com rest API?

Question

I have a site hosted on wordpress.com.

I want to access the post content that is stored there through the API.

I am making a request like this to what I think is the correct endpoint to get a post by slug.

https://public-api.wordpress.com/wp/v2/sites/[siteid].wordpress.com/wp-json/wp/v2/posts?slug=[slug]

but it returns this weird blob of what looks like CSS, and not the post content. So how do I get the actual post content?

*side note, ive looked around the official wordpress docs and found them lacking pretty hard.

so i ended up solving this after more searching found some actually helpful documentation.

the api looks like this, which is a highly unusual format. I wonder why they chose this.
