Rails and Exim for Mailer with external mail provider?

we have our mail outsourced. so everything is on an external server. in my rails app i want to send email with exim, but it doesn't work, because the sender address is on another server. Any advice on this?

You haven't supplied enough information to be able to give a useful answer. What error messages are shown in the relevant log files? What is the exim configuration on your localhost?

The location of the sender address (I presume you mean the location of the mailbox which accepts messages addressed to the sender address) is not always relevant; when you tried to send test emails, where did you send them?
