I have set up dual boot with windows 10 on my laptop and ubuntu 18.10 on my external hard drive. Because of lack of space on my external drive I cannot access my ubuntu. Is there any way to delete files from ubuntu while being on windows?

Sounds like you are looking for ext3/ext4 drivers for windows, assuming your Ubuntu setup used the default of ext3 or ext4 Linux filesystem types.

Unfortunately, I have not found many useful or reliable ext2/ext3 drivers for windows in my experience with dual boot. Many users report the corruption of files using the available ( sketchy ) drivers.

Searching again recently for ext4, the results are disheartening.

Workaround

If your goal is to move files and get your Ubuntu to install booting again, you can boot any Linux distribution to allow you to read your existing Ubuntu partition.

1. Create and boot from a live bootable USB (see Try Ubuntu , or any other live rescue disto).
2. Mount your existing Ubuntu partition as a drive, and manage files as needed.

While not a perfect daily-driver solution, this should be sufficient to delete any unneeded files to allow your Ubuntu installation to boot again.
