Unable to add packages to meteor 1.4 project

Question

I'm trying to add packages to my meteor 1.4 project but am not able to.

When running the meteor add 'package' command, I get the following error:

I've tried adding different packages and I get the same error. I'm running elementary OS loki which is based on Ubuntu 16.04

Any help would be greatly appreciated.
