Android app doesn't fully uninstall; reinstalls with old cache

Have this problem on a Google Pixel phone:

  1. Installing an app via .apk file
  2. Doing stuff in the app, having it save into a cache
  3. Opening device settings; find the app; delete all data/cache
  4. Uninstall app
  5. Reinstall app
  6. Open app Somehow, the cache is still there at step 6. The app opens with all the old cache data.

Any advice on how to do a true full clear of the app data? The desired outcome is that after reinstall, the app opens as if it were a fresh/first install.

disable app data auto backup on settings. I'm not sure if google pixel have this feature("App data backup") but it I think it has. I'm using Asus phone and also encountered this problem, found out that app data auto backup is enabled in settings.
