Setting property of abstract class from implementation class using autowired

I am trying to set the property of a protected property in an abstract class from the implementation class(Service). I am using @Autowired annotation and using the setter annotation in the implementation class. I am coding this in groovy which behind the scenes implements getter and setter if needed. When I try to run this code an error message is created indicating a StackOverFlow Error has occurred:

I am not sure which portion of the code is creating this or if this injection in this format is possible?

Most likely, this.converter = is attempting to call this.setConverter behind the scenes. The ideal approach is to move to constructor injection (which also eliminates the need for @Autowired ), but as an immediate fix, try using direct field access instead:
