I'm using matplotlib to draw a bar chart with 3 bars. I want to add some extra space along the x-axis (so that the x-axis line is drawn longer).
Below is what I have:

xvals = range(len(dt))
plt.bar(xvals, dt, width=0.5)
plt.tick_params(bottom=False)

plt.gca().spines['top'].set_visible(False)
plt.gca().spines['right'].set_visible(False)
plt.show()

I simply want (note the elongated x-axis):
