How to update Maildir without loading roundcube?

Today I set up a mail server that is working perfectly - it's using postfix, dovecot and roundcube. I have a utility that is scanning the user's maildir directory every few seconds to check for new emails, however I noticed that the directory only "updates" (new files only show up) when I log into roundcube. I've been searching on how I could update the directory with a command, but found nothing. The only thing that comes to mind is that there is another directory somewhere, but I could not find it even when searching the whole system. Is there a way to actually update or "refresh" the maildir directory manually (with a command)? I am using Ubuntu 20.04

After running a scan on all of my files I was able to locate that the new emails are saved in the "new" category instead of the "cur" one in the user's mailbox. For some bizzare reason they weren't showing up before - that's now fixed.
