Deploying ASP.NEt site to hosting company

I have built a website using visual studio web devloper 2010. It rund fine on local host on my machine but when I deploy it to my hosting provider (who do support ASP.NET) I get the following error:

500 - Internal server error. There is a problem with the resource you are looking for, and it cannot be displayed.

Just to test the site has been registerd I put a simple hello world html on the server and that works fine. I am pretty sure that my problem will be with the web.config and have tried a few ways of trying to get more info about the error using httpErrors existingResponse="PassThrough" /> and turning show friendly html errors off but that doesn't make any difference? I have logged a support call with the hosting site but that will not get answered until monday!

New error when loaded straight to Firefox

XML Parsing Error: not well-formed Location: file:///C:/Users/Fiona/Documents/Visual%20Studio%202010/Projects/Wedding/Wedding/MenuSelector.aspx Line Number 1, Column 2:<%@ PageTitle="Menu Selector" MasterPageFile="~/Site.master" Language="C#" AutoEventWireup="true" CodeBehind="MenuSelector.aspx.cs" Inherits="Wedding.MenuSelector" %> -^

Any suggestions on how to resolve this would be much apprciated, web.config shown below: (this is just a learning exercise so no sensitive data in file)

To see the actual error message, you can do this:

<!-- web.config -->
<configuration>
    <system.web>
        <customErrors mode="Off"/>
    </system.web>
</configuration>

Also, if you view the page with IE, you also need to disable friendly error message .

Probably you host lock this configuration in the IIS that way you will not be able to change it in you webconfig if you check this quesquion that he talks about this too.

You should remove

<httpErrors existingResponse="PassThrough" />

from your webconfig

you should include

<customErrors mode="Off"/>

in you webconfig to see what error is really happening.
