How to create Spring project without IDE?

I am beginner in spring. I don't understand working of project when i use IDE. That's why i am trying build the project without IDE but I don't know working directory's hierarchy, where to put maven and other resources and how to run it in command prompt. And also how to write pom.xml file?? Thank you in advance.
