Prestashop multistore slow search requests (strange long SQL "WHERE p.`id_product` IN ...")

Question

I have problems with search engine performance in prestashop 1.7.7.6 running as a multistore (10 domains). The shops run fast but sometimes the searches queue up and clog up the system. From what I have been able to determine these are SQL queries in the form of:

This query is performed in the find() method of the Search() class, its purpose, as you might imagine, is to return searched products.

Being a core query, there is not much you can do except debug it in a SQL client (maybe you are missing some index in DB tables?) / rewrite the method to suit your needs, upgrade the MySql server resources for better performances or use an external search provider that might help you bypassing the native search.
